Athletes and history nerds with XX chromosomes can rejoice! Once again, the Susan B. Anthony 5K and its little sister, the Elizabeth Candy Stanton Kids’ 1/2 Miler, is right around the corner. Casual joggers and competitive runners (and probably a few Lisa Simpson-esque feminists) have been taking part in the SBA 5K since 1976, making it a Sacramento running tradition. Named after the famous 19th century suffragette, the race is for women only, and not because feminists hate all men (a stereotype not based in reality), but because runners of both sexes wanted a space to honor the achievements and athletic prowess of women. Of course, you can stand on the sidelines and cheer regardless of your gender identification. Gents will find plenty of pleasure in the relaxed and social atmosphere around the finish line, and little gents will love the bounce house that opens before the race. Kids can run for free on the half-mile course. For more information, see here.
