The Sacramento Philharmonic presents a brand-new work by one of jazz’s living legends April 11, and it promises to be a feast for the senses. The premiere performance features the ever-innovative Dave Brubeck—who, at 88, was recently honored as a 2008 California Hall of Fame inductee—and his son Chris, a multi-instrumentalist and musical monster in his own right. Father and son were commissioned to write Ansel Adams: America, a multimedia work honoring the famed photographer, as part of the philharmonic’s California Compositions series. “We will be projecting many of Adams’ gorgeous photographs, with the music and images totally integrating with each other,” writes Chris Brubeck on his MySpace page. The show takes place at 8 p.m. at the Sacramento Community Center Theater, 1301 L St. Tickets are $16–$80. Call the box office at (916) 808-5181 or go to sacphil.org.
