Are you into Pirates? Do you consider yourself a man (or woman) of the sea? Looking for something different to do this weekend?
Then check out the Seafarer’s Marketplace and Pirate Festival taking place this Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 24–25. Among the happenings: cannon battles, sword fights, seafaring activities and, on Sunday, a re-enactment of the Battle of New Orleans. (Don’t worry, we didn’t know there was a battle of New Orleans, either.)
Bring a donation of canned food or make a cash donation to the Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services and receive free admission. (Parking is $5.) And eat and drink up—a portion of all food and drink sales will go to the A T Valdez Foundation, which helps disadvantaged individuals and families in south Sacramento.
And, yes, we did say, “marketplace,” so bring some coin for “unusual treasures from around the globe.”
The event takes place at Rio Ramaza Park, 10000 Garden Hwy. between Riego and Elverta roads; check out the website for directions and more details. Then grab your first mate and head over to help a good cause, otherwise we’ll make ye walk the plank!
