Sacramento Museum Day

It might rain on Saturday. And wouldn’t that be a good time to take the family to one (or more) of our area’s museums? OK, it might not rain on Saturday. But it’s still a good day to hit a local museum. Why? Because admission is free at 26 sites! Two other sites, Fairytale Town and the Sacramento Zoo, will offer half-price admission. It’s all part of the 14th Annual (and extremely popular) Sacramento Museum Day. Participating museums include Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park, the Sacramento Children’s Museum, the Sojourner Truth Multicultural Arts Museum and the Crocker Art Museum. Even more enticing, Fairytale Town, the California State Railroad Museum and the Aerospace Museum of California will be offering free ice cream (while supplies last!) at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. respectively.
If this isn’t your first outing on Sacramento Museum Day, take note: there won’t be shuttle buses to take you to and from locales this year. However, organizers point out that several museums are within walking distance of one another. That said, they recommend you pick two or three places you really want to see. That way you don’t spend more time shuttling about than at the actual museum.
Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the last admission at 4 p.m. For a list of participating museums and other information, click here.
