Sacramento Film & Music Festival

1949

It’s much more about film than music, rendering the title a little curious. But who cares? The Sacramento Film & Music Festival is one of the region’s most exciting annual arts events, a veritable three-day parade of panoramic splendor on the big screen at the charming and historic Crest Theatre. Now in its 15th year, this year’s fest will hold true to its tradition of showcasing films from such far-flung places as Russia and South Korea while providing a forum for local filmmakers.

With a heavy emphasis on short films—student shorts, Sacramento shorts and documentary shorts, to name a few—and such fascinating-sounding titles as “A Golden State of Mind: The Storytelling Genius of Huell Howser” to “JFK: A President Betrayed,” the fest seems to offer a little of something for everyone. There’s even a fashion challenge, and—yes—one music-related segment called Sac Music Seen, featuring music videos made by local filmmakers.
