With Sacramento increasingly becoming a home for artisans, designers, creators and left-brained movers-and-shakers, so too is Sacramento Fashion Week becoming a bigger and better local tradition. Originally started in 2006 as a fashion show for local designers to show off their wares, Sacramento Fashion Week has since blossomed into a weeklong affair stuffed with parties, shows, workshops and exhibits that point the spotlight on the very best of Sacramento style. This year’s event, running from Feb. 15 to 21, has something for every fashionista (or fashionisto) in town. The week kicks off with the Launch and Boutique Showcase, followed by Fashion Forum, where industry professionals will offer opinions and advice to fashion students and hobbyists. Aspiring models can attend Model Boot Camp, a workshop designed to teach amateurs how to break into the professional modeling industry. Business owners may want to attend the Social Media Workshop, which will teach attendees how to drive up business by utilizing social media. The last workshop on the roster is the Hair and Makeup Workshop, where Missy O’Daniel and Jasmine Cardenas of Allure Salon and Spa will give attendees insider tips on current hair and makeup styles and trends. Meanwhile, the California Film Foundation will be presenting a Fashion on Film exhibit near the end of the week. The celebration then wraps up with the Emerging Designer Showcase, the Spring and Summer Showcase, and the Fall and Winter Showcase.
