It wouldn’t be the holiday season in Sacramento without the Sacramento Ballet’s stunning production of Ron Cunningham’s “The Nutcracker”—catch it at the Community Center Theater from Dec. 6-22, and don’t miss the accompanying magical offering, the Sugar Plum Fairy Tea on Dec. 7.
The Sugar Plum Fairy Tea will take place on Dec. 7 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Capital Plaza Ballroom. Guests will be treated to a meet and greet with the cast, as well as a delectable sandwich and dessert buffet complete with tea or hot chocolate. Guests will take home a beautiful memory book and collector’s ornament as well as your own photo with the Sugar Plum Fairy herself for a $10 donation.
Cunningham’s annual production of “The Nutcracker” is the stuff of legend: 500 local children perform in Sacramento’s favorite holiday tradition full of adventure, breathtaking ballet and stunning sets all set to the iconic score by Tchaikovsky. Speaking of music, select performances will be accompanied by a live orchestra: Dec. 7 at 3 p.m.; Dec. 13 at 7 p.m.; Dec. 14 at 1 p.m.; Dec. 19 at 7 p.m.; Dec. 20 at 7 p.m.; and Dec. 21 at 5:30 p.m.
If your little ones notice the four-legged cast members in this year’s production, you could make their Christmas by adopting that very same stage dog. Thanks to a new creative partnership this year between the ballet and the Front Street Animal Shelter, each performance will feature an adoptable dog from the shelter as well as other shelter pets available for adoption during intermission.
