It will be easy to spot me in the audience during opening night of the Sacramento Ballet’s Nutcracker. I’ll be the one rummaging through my handbag for a tissue to wipe away the tears as the Snow Queen makes her entrance. Sure, this will be the ballet’s 500th performance of the holiday classic. And we’ll see the footwork of not one, but three Sugar Plum Fairies, including Melissa Sandvig, veteran of “Dancing With the Stars.” But for me, the highlight is always the Snow Queen and her king–when they take the stage riding a sleigh as cymbals crash and the strings run counterpoint to the horns in Tchaikovsky’s majestic score.
