The view from the cheap seats has never been so good. The producers of Rent: The Broadway Tour are offering first-row orchestra seats for $23 for each Sacramento performance. Look for the tickets at the Community Center Theater box office two hours before the show, and bring cash, not credit cards. There’s a limit of two tickets per person.
Rent was a special addition to California Musical Theatre’s Broadway Sacramento series. The Tony Award winner is the seventh-longest running show on Broadway. A modern version of the opera La Boheme, Rent paints a picture of struggling artists in New York City’s East Village. Jonathan Larson, the show’s creator, considered himself a struggling artist, and strived to create a musical that was accessible to everyone. Though he died just before Rent’s premiere, the rush tickets—which would normally cost $49 to $65—help fulfill his dream.
