Roland Petersen is an American painter and printmaker who was born in Denmark in 1926. His talents brought him to the United States, where he studied at UC Berkeley and the San Francisco Art Institute. Petersen became a sought-after Bay Area Figurative artist and was the first professor hired at UC Davis’ art department in 1956. His work can be found in the permanent collection at the Crocker Art Museum and he also has works at SFMOMA and the MoMA in New York City.
Petersen is now 87 years old and continues to paint. Through April, the Elliott Fouts Gallery will display his art from the 1950s to today. Petersen’s work integrates still life, figures and landscapes into strong and enigmatic compositions that are sure to inspire. For more information, click here.
