ROC Race Sacramento

Tough Mudder happened just a few weekends ago, but the average person probably chose to skip the torturous 12-mile obstacle race. Crawling through ice baths and dashing through electrical fields just isn’t for everyone. That doesn’t mean the sporty folks out there who prefer not to risk hypothermia can’t have fun of their own, though. On Sept. 6, Cal Expo is opening its gates to the ROC (short for Ridiculous Obstacle Challenge) Race, a 5k obstacle run inspired by game shows like “Wipeout” and “American Ninja Warrior.” Competitors will get to tackle the world’s largest inflatable water slide, jump across a bounce house track, swing on ropes over pools, dart out of the way of giant swinging balls, and much, much more. This is the low stakes, goofy little sister of Tough Mudder—athletes will probably be laughing more than worrying about what obstacle is around the next bend. And while you don’t necessary feel like a hardcore fitness monster at the end of it, that’s OK. It’s more about just having fun, and it’s for a good cause. The proceeds of the race go the Challenged Athletes Foundation, which helps people with physical disabilities access fitness and competitive athletic opportunities. For more information, go here.
