River City Marketplace

At the second-ever River City Marketplace, to be held Aug. 8 in Cesar Chavez Plaza, more than 100 local artists, crafters and businesses will come together to not only showcase their work, but to send the message, loud and clear, that Sacramento is a hub of talent and creativity.

“People in Sacramento sometimes don’t give this city enough credit with the number of creative and talented artists and makers that reside here,” says River City Marketplace co-founder Mindy Jovanovic. “We want that person with a blank space on his or her wall to come to River City Marketplace knowing they can find a piece of affordable local art within a dynamic local atmosphere, as opposed to popping in to Target for something that was printed at a corporate plant somewhere else.”

Jovanovic, a vendor herself, established the River City Marketplace after spending years having to travel out of town for large market events. When she noticed how many locals were traveling to shop at these events, she decided to bring the concept home.

The first River City Marketplace, held May 2 at McKinley Park, was a rousing success, and the expectations are even higher this time around.

Food trucks from Tacos Los Reyes, Cali Love, Fuzion Eats and Happy Cow, along with a beverage booth from Hoppy Brewing Company, will be like a mini gourmet food court in a Sacramento-only mall.

Live music and a kid’s zone are sure to enhance the shopping experience.
