“O” magazine called her a “knockout violinist”—and while it doesn’t hurt to have the Oprah stamp of approval, her legions of fans have known it all along. Widely considered the foremost jazz violinist of her generation, Carter will no doubt enchant and amaze the Mondavi crowd when she performs on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 8 p.m. Though the 48-year-old virtuoso’s highly improvisational style weaves together an unusual range of genres and styles—everything from bebop to Afro-Cuban and Motown—her current tour finds her focusing on the folk music of the South, which she explores in her recently released “Southern Comfort” album. You can learn more about that project—and the artist herself—by attending Carter’s pre-performance talk at 7 p.m.
