Capital Stage works hard to keep its reputation as Sacramento’s most cutting-edge theater company. As part of its mission to bring thought-provoking theater to the region, it seeks not just to put on the best new plays, but to help develop them in their early stages, too. Every year, Capital Stage selects just a handful of new plays and workshops them, inviting audiences to attend readings and join in post-reading discussions with the goal of honing the works and prepping them for full-scale productions. This year, three out of 150 submissions made the cut. Audiences should find the experience intimate and engaging—it’s a rare opportunity to not just see good theater but to directly interact with it, too. For more information, look here.
