Painting for Paws

Move over, Picasso, Sacramento’s animals are taking over your favorite medium. The cats and dogs of Happy Tails Pet Sanctuary are taking paintbrushes in paw (well, OK, sometimes the paintbrush is omitted) and creating works of art, which will be available to view and bid on at the Seventh Annual Painting for Paws, taking place Saturday, Aug. 20 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Dante Club at 2330 Fair Oaks Blvd. in Sacramento.
The paintings are part of the event’s silent auction. Other items up for bid: gift certificates to local restaurants, jewelry, garden art and home décor, and a 10-day cruise to Alaska. (By the way, that 10-day cruise? It does exist. My mom won it last year.)
Also on hand: food, wine, music and . . . drum roll, please . . . 2010 Best of Sacramento editors’ pick Bassil Kamas, who will be providing massages.
The $20 entrance fee and all proceeds benefit Happy Tails Pet Sanctuary, which works to rescue and find homes for homeless cats and dogs in the Sacramento area. For more information, click here or call (916) 556-1155.
Cuteness alert: Check out of some of the Happy Tails kitties creating their works of art Friday morning on “Good Day Sacramento.”
