Open enrollment for affordable health care is upon us. With a four month window to enroll, it’s easy to put off the work until early February, when the enrollment period wraps up. But with health coverage starting up on the first of January, why wait and go uninsured for the first month and a half of the new year? Or worse, why take the risk of missing the enrollment window and end up without insurance and having to pay a fine?
Though there’s been much negative attention paid to the Affordable Care Act, the fact remains that it guarantees every American access to affordable, acceptable coverage, and it allows consumers to make the best choices for their own health needs. Still, the marketplace system remains daunting for many. What do I need to enroll? How do I calculate my wages? Which plan is best for me? Feeling overwhelmed is no excuse to avoid taking care of your health. La Familia Insurance Counseling Center is partnering with the Gender Health Center and other certified enrollment entities to offer assistance to those currently uninsured and those wanted to check out other health care plans. From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday the 6th, certified enrollment counselors will be taking walk-in appointments with interested potential consumers. There’ll be no wait time—if you need insurance help, you can walk in with your driver’s license, social security card, and proof of income in hand and immediately be seated with a counselor who will walk you through the steps of enrolling and picking a plan. Assistance is free, supportive, and unbiased. Now’s the time to take your health care into your own hands, but you don’t have to do it alone. For more information, see here.
