Kaleo’s 5K Run & 1 Mile Walk

This is no ordinary fun run taking place on Sunday, Aug. 5. Now in its fourth year, Kaleo’s 5K Run & 1 Mile Walk is an opportunity to help out the four-legged law-enforcement officers who do so much to keep our community safe. Money raised from the event helps provide specialty equipment for the working dogs as well as medical care for retired K9s. In fact, the event is named after Sacramento Sheriff K9 Officer Kaleo, who was forced to retire due to cancer. A bonus of participating in this event: You’ll be able to meet several working K9s and their human partners (because let’s face it, even better than doing a race that helps benefit dogs is meeting the dogs).

The 5K (with or without your pup in tow) starts at 8:30 (8 a.m. for the kids), with the 1 mile walk starting soon after. Registration is $15 to $30.

The event starts at the Sacramento Sheriff’s Training Academy at 1000 Riverwalk Way in Carmichael.

Stick around after the event to see a K9 demonstration.
