Jake Shimabukuro

In case you hadn’t noticed, the ukulele craze is big—and many say it’s all because of Jake Shimabukuro. This Hawaiian-born hero of the uke, who’ll appear at the Crest Theatre Sept. 10, became a worldwide sensation after his mind-blowing rendition of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” went viral on YouTube 7 years ago. His complex, fast fingerings and musical inventiveness has since earned comparisons to the disparate likes of Jimi Hendrix and Miles Davis, and he’s even played for the Queen of England. Thankfully, he routinely plays in front of regular folks, too, including a much-lauded Sacramento performance last October at Sac City College and this next stop at the Crest.
