Jack Gallagher: ‘The Joke’s on Me’

Need a good giggle? Don’t miss comedian and rock ’n’ roll raconteur—and Land Park resident—Jack Gallagher in a special performance of his fourth annual one-night-only concert “The Joke’s on Me” on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the 24th Street Theatre.

Sacramento’s favorite funny guy has made numerous appearances on “The Tonight Show” with Johnny Carson and Jay Leno, NBC’s “Late Night with Conan O’Brien,” as well as in his own ABC sitcom, “Bringing Up Jack.” He’s written several one-man shows on commission for the B Street Theatre (including “Letters to Declan,” “Just the Guy,” “What He Left” and “A Different Kind of Cool”), but Gallagher’s rock ’n’ roll persona gets to have the last laugh this time around for a concert-cum-comedy set.

“This is an amazing band of Bay Area musicians,” Gallagher says of his backup band. “[We have] The Rubinoos’ Tommy Dunbar and Al Chan, drummer Kevin Hayes (who’s played with Robert Cray, John Lee Hooker and Van Morrison), keyboardist Allen Leong and the legendary maestro himself, Dick Bright.”

Gallagher says that the line-up this time around “will include a Rascals’ medley, some Warren Zevon gems, Marshall Crenshaw and a few chestnuts from 1960s various mammal/bird bands.”
