Ever wonder what Sacramento was like during the 1850s? Find out Labor Day weekend during Gold Rush Days, taking place in Old Sacramento. The fun starts on Friday and runs through Monday, and includes “Old West” theatrics, pony, wagon and train rides, historical re-enactments and more. Be sure to stop by Tent City in Old Sacramento State Historic Park where there will be a mercantile, boarding house, millinery, saloons and more. While there, drink some sarsaparilla, pan for gold and make your own pioneer handkerchief doll to take home. There will be live entertainment throughout Old Sac; don’t miss the Johnny Cash Tribute Band performing at 2 p.m. Sunday on the Save Mart Stage. The free event (yes, we said free) takes place Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Monday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. It’s fun for the whole family, but just keep in mind the “K Street shoot-outs,” which take place throughout the weekend, though perfectly safe and just for show, may jolt an unsuspecting toddler, so careful with the little ones.
