Earth Day turns 40 on Thursday, and several local Earth Day events are scheduled. Here’s a snippet of what’s happening in the area:

The Sacramento Green Expo, Sacramento’s first major green living and lifestyle expo, will take place April 24 and 25 at the Cal Expo Pavilion building. More than 300 local organizations are taking part in the expo. Highlights include a local farmers market, green job fair, hands-on demonstrations and a demonstration vegetable garden. The family-friendly event is free.

The California State Parks Foundation is coordinating cleanups and restorations of several sites in celebration of Earth Day. Bring gloves, a hat, sunscreen and water. Learn more here.

Whole Foods Market is celebrating Earth Day on April 24 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with crafts, activities for kids, education on reducing your carbon footprint and vendor samples. Rock out to the Rio Americano Jazz Band and don’t forget to bring your electronics to recycle. Proceeds will benefit the Sacramento Tree Foundation. Whole Foods is located at 4315 Arden Way in Sacramento. Admission is free.
