Ghost Tours With a Twist

Get into the spirit of the season, do some walking and learn a bit of local history all in one tour this Halloween season. There are several options from which to choose.
The Historic Old Sacramento Foundation offers Living History “Ghost Tours” Fridays and Saturdays through Oct. 29. Tourgoers walk the streets of Old Sacramento, learning about California’s “spooky” history. Tours run every 30 minutes from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tickets run $10 to $15.
Curious to see what the Governor’s Mansion is like after dark? The mansion is spooked up for Halloween tours Oct. 22 and 29 complete with haunting music, costumed characters and storytellers telling tales of governors past. The self-guided tours run from 6 to 9 p.m. (you just walk about the mansion at your own pace). Tickets for “The Mansion After Dark” run $4 to $6.
Sutter’s Fort turns into “The Haunted Fort” Oct. 28 and 29. Brave visitors embark on 45-minute guided tours of our area’s oldest establishment; many of the rooms of the fort are reputed to be haunted by past inhabitants. Mwahahahahah. Did I mention the tours are amid firelight? Scary! Tours depart every 10 minutes between 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. and tickets cost $4 to $6.
