Work up a sweat for a cause at the 4th Annual Getty Owl Run/Walk at Crocker Park on Feb. 22. This family fun run is available to runners in 5k and 10k forms, plus a quarter mile race for little kids wanting in on the action. The Getty Owl Foundation raises awareness for spinal muscular atrophy, the most common congenital killer of small children. Tragically, those living with the disease rarely live past the age of 2. While there is no known treatment or cure, the National Health Institutes have announced that SMA is the disease closest to treatment of all the neurological disorders currently being researched. Each year, the Getty Owl Foundation helps advance research even more. Last year’s run brought together nearly 1,000 participants and raised more than $40,000 for research and assistance for affected families. You can help make this year even more successful and have fun, too. After finishing up the fun run, participants can hang out at Crocker Park and enjoy the post-race family festival packed with food, music and activities for athletes of all ages.
