It’s not every day that a true musical giant comes to town. But on Saturday, July 26, local music fans will have the honor of rolling out the red carpet for jazz/R&B legend George Benson, who will perform at the Thunder Valley Amphitheatre at 7 p.m. With his brilliant guitar chops and smooth vocals, Benson is one of those unusual cats who is as highly regarded among the jazz elite as he is popular with mainstream music fans, who first caught wind of him with his ’70s smash hits “This Masquerade” and “On Broadway.” Now 71, he’s still out there swinging, releasing one of his best albums, “Inspiration: A Tribute to Nat King Cole,” just last year. His Thunder Valley show would be one to catch no matter what, but this one has the added allure of trumpeting phenom Chris Botti on the bill. Should be quite a show!
