Fifth Annual Tea Affaire: Tea and Tango

Gather your gal pals together for an afternoon of tea—and tango. Tango performances by Firehouse 5 Dance, that is. (Don’t worry, you won’t be pulled up onto some stage to dance.) The Fifth Annual Tea Affaire: Tea and Tango takes place on Saturday, May 12 at the Pat Willis Estate in Granite Bay. Tickets are $60 and support the projects of the local American Red Cross Tiffany Circle.

Never heard of the Tiffany Circle? Neither had I until recently. It’s a group of women leaders and philanthropists who dedicate time and money—$10,000 annually—to support various Red Cross projects. According to the Red Cross website, the society is named after the Tiffany windows in the Board of Governors Hall at the Red Cross national headquarters in Washington, D.C. Produced by Tiffany Studios, the windows were commissioned by Red Cross President Mabel Boardman in 1917. They were paid for with a $5,000 gift from the Women’s Relief Corps of the North and $5,000 from the United Daughters of the Confederacy of the South as an act of “reconciliation and hope.”

What a story! And we all know the good the Red Cross provides to people in times of disaster. Why not have a little fun and help out at the same time? The tea starts at 1 p.m. The Pat Willis Estate is located at 9125 Vista de Lago in Granite Bay. For tickets call (916) 993-7085 or e-mail Diana Turner at
