Family Kwanzaa Concert

Celebrate Kwanzaa at the Crocker Art Museum this Friday, Dec. 28. Big Dreams, Small Shoulders features Crocker Artist-in-Residence Deborah Pittman performing her original, multimedia piece inspired by Norman Rockwell’s “The Problem We All Live With.” The 1964 painting depicts 6-year-old Ruby Bridges on her way to an all-white public school in New Orleans. Because of threats directed toward her, Bridges, who is African American, is escorted to school by four U.S. Deputy Marshals. The show starts at 2 p.m. Tickets are $3 to $5; advance registration is required. Click here or call (916) 808-1182. Want to tour the museum afterward (and perhaps see the Normal Rockwell exhibit)? Museum admission is $5 to $10, free for children 6 and younger.
