Dr. John & The Nite Trippers

2114

According to a friend who has seen him in concert, there’s an aura about Dr. John that is positively bewitching—just like his native New Orleans. It’s hard to believe the legend who climbed the charts with “Right Time, Wrong Place” in the ’70s is now in his 70s himself. But Dr. John, aka Mac Rebennack, is still serving up a sizzling musical gumbo with voodoo-like charm, and he’s bringing it home to the Mondavi Center on Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 8 p.m., when he’ll perform with his all-star band, the Nite Trippers. With Dr. John’s powerful boogie-woogie/bluesy/funky piano chops, his gritty, one-of a-kind vocals, and the joyous, theatrical spirit of Nola, it should be one wildly memorable night.
