Denio’s Dog Day of Fun

For those not in the know, March 28 is National Something on a Stick Day. If you’re feeling a bit lazy about it, you could hit up Hot Dog on a Stick and call it a day. But if you want to seize the moment and fully embrace this national holiday, there is a far better option (no offense to Hot Dog on a Stick). Denio’s Farmers Market & Swap Meet, Roseville’s staple flea market, is having its 6th annual Dog Day of Fun. This year’s event includes wiener dog races (attendees can enter their own beloved dachshunds into the races), a Wanna-Be-a-Weiner dog costume parade (open to all canines), and a corndog eating contest. Competitive eaters will have four minutes to stuff themselves with as many cornbreaded sausages as they can with the hopes of winning a $200 cash prize, a corn dog trophy fit for only the finest mantles, and bragging rights, of course. Second and third place winners also receive a prize. All proceeds collected from the dachshund festivities will be donated to the local Placer County SPCA to benefit dogs in need. Dog Day of Fun attendees can check out the wiener events for the day before strolling through the ginormous Denio’s, where you can find vintage collectibles, new fast fashion, children’s toys, fresh fruits and vegetables, and all the pizza, hamburgers, candy corn and soft-serve ice cream you can eat. For information about this event or Denio’s in general, check out the Denio’s website.
