Her name may not ring a bell for everyone, but her songs certainly do. How about the ’60s classic “He’s a Rebel,” which features her powerhouse lead singing, or “Be My Baby” and “Da Doo Ron Ron,” both bolstered by her bold background vocals? We are talking, of course, about the legendary Darlene Love, whose voice was described by the New York Times as a “thunderbolt … as embedded in the history of rock and roll as Eric Clapton’s guitar or Bob Dylan’s lyrics.” Now 76, Love’s career is possibly hotter than ever, with a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction, appearances in Broadway musicals and “Lethal Weapon” movies and, more recently, the documentary “20 Feet from Stardom.” We could keep listing her credits until we run out of space, but the bottom line is this: She’s still got it—and she’s bringing it home to the Harris Center on Saturday, Aug. 9.
