Crack Open Crab Season

It’s crab feed season. It’s that time of year when it seems like half of the area’s charities, churches, benevolent societies, and junior high school girl’s basketball teams break out the crabs and pull in much-needed dollars for their groups. Here are a few of the best events in town in case you were looking for a crab feast in the next few weeks.

Feb. 4: Junior League of Sacramento hosts “Denim and Diamonds.” The Junior League puts on one of the best crab feasts in town, and the silent auction items are second to none. Wearing denim and diamonds is preferred, but pearls and pleather will work as well. Saturday, Feb. 4 at 5pm. St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1333 58th St., Sacramento. Tix: $48 in advance, $55 at the door.

Feb. 25: The Active Women’s 20-30 club of Greater Sacramento throws one heck of a crab party. Expect great food, entertainment and dancing well into the night. Also, take a nap before you arrive because the after parties can be of legendary proportions. Saturday, Feb. 25 at 5pm. Divine Savior Catholic Church, 9079 Greenback Lane, Orangevale. Tix: $50, $60 at the door.

March 17: Granite Bay High School’s Emerald Brigade Marching Band hosts its fourth annual Crab Feed with special emcee Mark S. Allen. Proceeds help fund jazz, concert and marching band programs at GBHS. Bring your appetite and your sousaphone. Saturday, March 17, 5:30pm. Faith Center Lutheran Church, 6365 Douglas Blvd., Granite Bay
Tix: $40.
