Whether you believe in war or are a pacifist, it’s hard not to have a certain amount of reverence for our fellow Americans who have risked their lives to fight for our nation. For many of us, those soldiers were our friends, our neighbors and even our parents, our siblings, or our children. Because war affects us all in myriad ways, you may want to take some time off on Monday the 11th to march over to Capital Mall to celebrate our veterans at the Veterans Day Parade. With this year’s theme of “Proud to be an American,” you can come decked out in your most patriotic apparel—it may be time to dust off the old Fourth of July decorations. The parade begins at 11 a.m., with a pre-show at 10:30 and activities after everyone has marched around Capital Mall. The parade is a family-friendly event and will feature food trucks and a children’s carnival. Adults and veterans may be more interested in the military displays and veterans info booths. Come out and show your American pride, or just give a salute to our brave local heroes. Find more information here.
