An Old-Fashioned Christmas

You may have heard, even attended, the Sacred Heart Holiday Home Tour, an annual fundraiser for Sacred Heart Parish School in East Sacramento. Attendees get to step inside five beautiful homes in the Fab Forties neighborhood, each decked out for the holidays by local designers.
Well, The Elk Grove Historical Society has a similar event but instead of  homes, the Elk Grove Hotel & Stage Shop (9941 East Stockton Blvd.) gets the royal treatment, with each room in the hands of a different local designer. Rooms include the ballroom (transformed into the North Pole Village), ladies’ and men’s parlors (the latter, a 1900s version of the “man cave”), bedrooms, kitchen and dining room.  Afterward, stop by the jail (don’t worry, you won’t be booked) for some cider and gingerbread cookies.
The tour runs Fridays–Sundays from noon to 6 p.m., Dec. 2–18. And if you have kiddos, you might want to come on a Saturday—Santa will be there ready to take pictures. Also, on Saturday, Dec. 11 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., take a Christmas hayride. (Photos and hayrides are $10 and $5, respectively.)
Admission to the event, which benefits the Elk Grove Historical Society, is $5. (Children younger than 12 are admitted free.) But if you bring a new, unwrapped toy, you’ll receive $1 off admission.
