If you prefer your artwork to be colored with light humor, consider visiting the “Whimsical World” exhibit that runs through Saturday, Feb. 19 at ACAI Studios & Gallery in Fair Oaks (7425 Winding Way).
Three local artists are featured: Cathi Newlin (ceramics), Jen Norpchen (gourds) and gallery curator Sandee Hancock (watercolors, gouache, ink, ceramics).
Here’s how ACAI describes the exhibit:
“With childlike eyes, walk through the world of playful monsters, woodland creatures, shorebirds, as well as fantastical characters; swimming, leaping, reflecting and sharing their creativity with the world. We have two interactive pieces where you can take away a new thought, and leave one for someone else. Have a relaxing stay in our cozy nook for reading a children’s book, or two. You don’t want to miss it! This is a great exhibit for children, birthday parties and field trips.”
The gallery is open for drop-in visits from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays, and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. You also can book visits online, where you can find out more information.
In association with “Whimsical World,” ACAI is presenting a story time for children from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12. One week later, on the exhibit’s last day, there is an open gallery reception from 6 to 8 p.m.
“You can meet the artists, enjoy food, drinks and live music,” ACAI says about the Feb. 19 event. “The gallery art and ceramic studio art will be available for purchase.”
