Irish eyes won’t be the only ones smiling when Sacramento’s McKeever School of Irish Dance presents its annual student showcase on Saturday, March 18 at Hiram Johnson High School (6879 14th Ave.)

Many of you have seen video clips if not performances of Riverdance and other toe-tapping (and foot-stomping!) touring troupes, but this local event gives you an up-close glimpse of how people (most but not all of them school-age) learn this Celtic craft.

“Come watch 100 Irish dancers of all ages and abilities perform for you!” McKeever beckons on its website. “From tiny beginners to champions about to head off to the World Championships, you will see a full spectrum of talent. The McKeever School of Irish Dance is happy to perform for family, friends and anyone who is interested in seeing Irish dance in its truest and liveliest form right here in beautiful Sacramento.

“Under the direction of Nicole McKeever, who holds a master’s degree in Irish dance from the University of Limerick, Ireland, and who was an internationally touring member of Riverdance the show for a solid five years! We hope you are inspired to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day with us and cheer on these hardworking artists.”

The show starts at 6:30 p.m. Tickets to enter the auditorium are $15 for access to the second tier (stair-climbing required) or $20 for the lower level. They can be purchased on McKeever’s website.

Earlier that Saturday, from noon to 5 p.m. in Old Sacramento, the McKeever School of Dance will be represented in the St. Patrick’s Day parade. So there you go, Irish lovers, it’s your lucky day!
