You don’t need to be German to attend the 47th Annual Oktoberfest at Sacramento Turn Verein Oct. 10–11, though it helps: When I attended this uber-popular fest a few years ago, I was suddenly lifted out of my chair by a dance-lovin’ man clad in lederhosen, who twirled me around the floor until I nearly collapsed. But what fun! Between the infectious live music, authentic German grub (I remember sausages and ’kraut), endless supply of beer and—most emphatically—the gregarious, larger-than-life crowd, there’s a reason why this Oktoberfest is considered by many to be the best in the region.
