2012 Night of Celebration

My friend Jen is a cancer survivor. Jen was a 25-year-old medical student at Georgetown University School of Medicine when she was undergoing chemo and radiation for Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Today she is a family medicine physician with Sutter Medical Group. And she’s 10 years cancer free as of this past December.
To celebrate, for the past several years, Jen has been throwing a fundraising gala to honor cancer patients and survivors, but more importantly to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. This year’s 2012 Night of Celebration will be held Saturday, March 31 from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at The Momo Lounge, upstairs from Harlow’s at 2708 J St. The event will feature cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, raffle prizes, a silent auction, music and dancing. All of the proceeds—and I mean 100 percent—from the evening go to charity. A mere $10 donation gets you in the door and buys you a raffle ticket. You’ll want to buy more tickets, though. She’s lining up some great prizes: flight lessons, spa services, artwork, restaurant certificates and more. Throughout the night there will be drink specials and hosted light appetizers.

I’ve been to some of Jen’s previous Night of Celebration events. They are always fun, with great food, drinks and prizes. Most importantly, they draw an audience of people—some of them cancer survivors themselves—gathering to support a great cause. And one very dear to my friend. Hard not to like that.
