Elk Grove and Kennedy (tie)
Hair tucked neatly under hat. Chin strap adjusted. Uniforms pressed. Shoes polished. And we haven’t even gotten to the musical instruments. Sac Mag readers singled out two marching bands for excellence: the Elk Grove High School Marching Band and John F. Kennedy Marching Band & Color Guard. In uniforms of dark blue, gold and black (Elk Grove, aka The Thundering Herd) or green, gold and black (Kennedy), the bands musically support their football teams at all home games and play at numerous other events. Both bands traverse Northern California for competitions—no small feat considering the number of parent volunteers needed and the size of those sousaphones.
