Wine of the Week: Ironstone 2009 Chardonnay

It’s always fun to find an inexpensive, good-quality wine to keep on hand for day-to-day enjoyment. I tried Ironstone Vineyards’ tasty (and under $10) 2009 Chardonnay this week and appreciated its no-nonsense, just-fruity-enough personality – it offered restrained, crisp flavors of green apple and pear, with some subtle, jazzy clove and citrus notes; and a delicate, tropical aroma that intensified as the wine warmed up. This friendly white would pair beautifully with scallop and crab dishes, a pre-dinner cheese platter, roast chicken (and chicken pot pie) and a salmon-dill risotto.
