Most people immediately think of French toast when Broadway’s Tower Café is mentioned. And rightly so—the restaurant cranks out the best version of that iconic breakfast item in the city. But another reason to love Tower Café is its feisty, global array of lunch and dinner items—where else in town can you order Moo Ping Satay (skewers of marinated pork tenderloin with spicy cucumber salad), Brazilian chicken and “Mexi-cali” crab cakes—all from the same menu? In addition to its eclectic lineup of international fare, the restaurant also offers some darn good burgers. I recently relished the kitchen’s juicy, satisfying Borracho burger, whose hefty half-pound patty is loaded with a zesty, ale-embellished barbecue sauce, melted Jack cheese, and a crusty pile of sweet, crispy fried onions. Pair this meaty treasure with one of Tower’s draft beers; and be prepared to roll up your sleeves.
