I feel the holidays are a time of lavish indulgence—which is why I greedily tucked into an enormous bowl of Stagecoach restaurant’s “cheezy” shrimp and Andouille grits one recent weekend morning. This is one of my very favorite items at this friendly, bustling diner, and it’s robust enough to power you and a friend up for a day of holiday shopping and visiting. The kitchen’s super-creamy grits are blended with (lots of) sharp cheddar cheese, then topped with garlic butter, Cajun sautéed shrimp, Andouille sausage and a handful of chopped green onion. Served up with three (yes, three) eggs of your choice and a housemade biscuit, this nurturing, flavorful dish is well worth the drive to South Sacramento.
