Try It: Pork Belly Grub Shack’s Onion Rings


I realize that most folks make the pilgrimage to Pork Belly Grub Shack for the quirky establishment’s over-the-top burgers (if you’ve never had a burger topped with a sunny side-up egg and barbecue sauce, this is a good place to try one), but I have my own reason for visiting this out-of-the-way eatery, tucked inside a Natomas strip mall: the onion rings. Deliciously crusty and hot, the rings have a sweet-tender interior and beat out most of the versions I have tried in the Sacramento region. Pair the rings with the Grub Shacks’ “Flamin’ Pig” Burger (stacked with pork belly, bacon, pepper Jack cheese and a smear of spicy chipotle aioli) or the homestyle “Funky Fried Chicken” sandwich.
