Juno’s Kitchen & Delicatessen in East Sacramento is a fabulous spot for creative sandwiches. I usually don’t veer far from the shop’s panko-crusted eggplant sandwich (with roasted peppers, Manchego cheese and basil aioli), but the other day I made a bold choice and chose the special of the day—a braised beef and chicken torta. Embellished with a feisty heirloom tomato pico de gallo, creamy slices of avocado and crunchy bits of watermelon radish, this lusty, meaty, full-flavored sandwich was a knockout. Call ahead for availability—the torta isn’t on Juno’s daily menu.
