Attention all families, food lovers and fans of our region’s small family farms: The 27th Annual Hoes Down Harvest Festival occurs on Oct. 4, with additional hands-on seminars offered on Oct. 5.
This festive all-day celebration of the harvest season, hosted at Capay Valley’s Full Belly Farm, offers visitors an exciting opportunity to experience rural life on an organic family farm. Visitors, both big and small, can learn how to shear sheep, milk a cow, grind grain, participate in a rain dance, and take a nighttime “harvest story” walk around the farm at sunset, complete with lanterns, musicians and a mysterious surprise. Other highlights include the always-popular dunk tank and the towering hay fort—perfect for energetic youngsters. And don’t miss the appearances by Circus Bella, an open air, one-ring circus featuring contemporary, high-level acts.
Live music, a farmers’ market and lots of great food are also part of this wonderful annual event. The Hoes Down is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and tickets cost $20 when purchased online, or $25 at the gate. Tickets for children 2-12 are $5, and children under two are free. For more details or to purchase tickets online, go to the Festival website.
