Old Soul at The Weatherstone on 21st Street has long been one of my favorite hangouts. But it was only recently that I discovered that the coffee house (which serves up first-rate java) also has a terrific food menu. This past weekend I gobbled up an order of the establishment’s scrumptious carnitas street tacos, loaded with crusty, moist pork and composed on fresh, earthy corn tortillas—some of the tastiest tacos I’ve tried in town. I rounded out my meal with a dense, decadent house-baked chocolate cake, which offered a delicate cream filling and a light slathering of lusty espresso frosting, perched on a pool of cherry sauce. I loved the combination of flavors, and the cake was the perfect sweet accompaniment to a hot, sturdy mug of coffee.
