The Press Still Delights

It’s been a long time since I’ve had an opportunity to visit The Press, located smack-dab in the heart of midtown. A recent dinner there convinced me that chef/owner David English is still firmly on his game, celebrating our seasonal bounty and offering patrons “food and drink of the Mediterranean table.” His fabulous, chive-speckled corn soup was a sweet celebration of Sacramento summer; and a wild king salmon entrée, bathed in a delicate lemon butter sauce and served with a pile of gently sautéed green bean and cherry tomatoes, was stunning in its simplicity. Other not-to-miss dishes included the kitchen’s lusty, sturdy handmade mushroom and ricotta ravioli, and a tangy, ultra-creamy cherry-topped buttermilk panna cotta.
