The Sacramento region is blessed with astounding agricultural bounty, and now that spring is here I’m sure you’re seeing fresh strawberries everywhere you go. I am, too, but when I want the best strawberries – if I’m making jam, a strawberry-rhubarb pie, or strawberry shortbread for guests – I get in the car and head out to a teeny, ramshackle produce stand in Davis. Non-descript and off the beaten track, this stand consistently sells outstanding-flavored and wonderfully fragrant strawberries – well worth the trip from East Sacramento.
To get there from downtown Sacramento, simply take I80 West towards Davis. Take CA 113N, then exit at Covell Boulevard. Make a left on Covell and follow it down past Impossible Acres Farm. The stand will be on the left side, and is located in a big strawberry field – it’s hard to miss. If you reach County Road 95, you’ve gone too far.
