With Sacramento region temperatures in the triple digits, it seems fitting that folks who embrace solar cooking would choose this weekend to celebrate their unique form of cuisine. The Solar Cooking Festival, which celebrates “a fun way to cook food using clean energy anywhere the sun shines,” is occurring this Saturday, July 19, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at William Land Park. The event is free to the public and features local and international (from Kenya, Norway, Uganda, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Germany, Canada and Hong Kong) solar chefs demonstrating their solar ovens and cooking techniques. Mini solar-cooking classes will be offered to attendees, who can also learn about how solar cooking helps families around the world and how to make their very own solar cooker.
