Icing on the Pie?

The nice folks over at Icing on the Cupcake stopped by a couple of weeks ago with goodies in hand: pies and tubs of icing. Tubs of icing? I’ll get to that in a moment, but first things first: Starting Nov. 11, Fridays at Icing on the Cupcake will be known as “Pie-Day Fridays” when IOTC—best known for, what else? its cupcakes—will offer “Sweetie Pies.” The debut flavor? “Mom’s Homemade Apple Crumb Pie,” (to tie in with Thanksgiving), with pecan pie coming along before Christmas. Each individual, cupcake-sized pie costs $3, and, yes, pre-orders are encouraged.
Now to the icing. IOTC sells 1 pound containers of icing—chocolate fudge, vanilla buttercream, cream cheese and strawberry buttercream—for $5. Sure, the logical conclusion is that you’ll buy a tub to frost your own homemade cake. (You can still call it homemade, right?) Or, you can grab a spoon and dig in! You might think I am joking, but the icing sent to us came with about two dozen tiny spoons for sampling and I caught more than one co-worker (OK, myself included) digging in for seconds, with a clean spoon, of course. My favorite for stand-alone noshing: vanilla buttercream.
