Winters’ RootStock Celebrates Locally-Crafted Products

Surrounded by lush farmland, the small, charming town of Winters has a long, rich agricultural history. Visitors to Winters interested in experiencing locally-crafted foodstuffs and wine should stop into RootStock, located on Main Street. This friendly store, whose specialty goods and gifts celebrate “Who We Are, Where We Are and Why We Are Here,” features a lovely painted mural of local hills and vineyards, and a plethora of interesting treats. It serves as a tasting room for a handful of regional wineries, including Vacaville’s Julie LePla Winery and Capay Valley’s Séka Hills, and also offers a delicious array of locally-made almond, grapeseed, walnut and olive oils, vinegars, honey, and even cookies and scone mixes. If you’re in gift-buying mode, check out the hand-blown glass, crafted by Davis artist Linnea Wong, wood coasters (made from locally recycled trees!) and gorgeous, handmade cutting boards. If you happen to visit on a Friday night between 6pm and 8pm, you’ll be entertained by live music while you shop. (Note: If you leave hungry, head to popular Ficelle restaurant for some fabulous tapas; or Chuy’s Taqueria for a cerveza and first-rate shrimp taco).
