I’m a big fan of chef Rick Mahan, owner of the popular The Waterboy restaurant in midtown and East Sac’s OneSpeed. Humble and extremely talented, Mahan is one of Sacramento’s first and most passionate supporters of small local family farms and seasonal, organic produce. I was surprised and delighted to see that Mahan will be teaching a class through the Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op on the evening of Oct. 30—offering attendees a unique opportunity to learn some valuable tips about the preparation of two of his most beloved menu items: risotto and gnocchi. In addition to crafting seasonal dishes for participants to enjoy during class, Mahan will “treat us to a few surprises, too!” according to the course description. Sounds like fun. The class costs $55 ($45 for Co-op owners) and takes place from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30. For more information and to sign up for the class, visit the Co-op’s website.
